2015 will be the 825th anniversary of the date recorded as the start of the building of our Parish Church. We hope to complete this very significant project by 22 June 2015 - our Patronal Festival. The first stage of the project - to install the toilet and the glass doors - is planned for the last few months of 2014.

LUNCH WITH ANN WIDDECOMBE - MARCH 2015

widdecombe

On a lovely sunny morning at the end of March, 58 people gathered at Lucknam Park Hotel for lunch with Ann Widdecombe.  From the moment we arrived and were greeted most warmly by the Lucknam hotel staff we knew we were in for a treat. In the unbeatable surroundings of the Park Restaurant, we were served a most delicious lunch of the freshest spring produce – new season`s lamb with baby vegetables, and the pinkest sweet rhubarb. During lunch, Ann made a point of coming round to all the tables and chatting to everyone, which was much appreciated; she had lived in Bath as a child and went to school there, so she did have a few local contacts who had come to meet her at this event. Afterwards, Ann spoke most amusingly for half an hour without so much as a note, and told us something about her very interesting and varied post-political career – actress, author, and of course that famous appearance as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing! Apparently she once even found herself on the stage at Covent Garden with a part in an opera – non-singing she hastened to add! She took a series of questions, and was happy to answer anything that was thrown at her without the least hesitation. There was a queue to buy signed copies of her autobiography, Strictly Ann, and copies of her four novels which she had brought with her. Some wonderful raffle prizes had been assembled, including a Spa Day at Lucknam Park, pictures by local artists, and a fragrance package; during lunch our wallets were gently but systematically emptied by persuasive ladies selling tickets for these exciting prizes. An added bonus was for one lucky person on each table to win the beautiful flower arrangement decorations.  Ann Widdecombe was kind enough to waive her normal fee, and the occasion also benefited by most generous sponsorship from John Robinson of Euridge Manor.

NEW HOSPITALITY AREA - MAY 2015

Below is the new hospitality area in action after morning service.  Be thankful we’re not going to show you the new toilet facilities in action, but here on the right is a picture of the lovely oak panelling that helps our new asset blend in with the Colerne’s historic parish church.
